HARD LESSONS LEARNT IN ABU DHABI FOR YOUNG MMA ATHLETE

It was a tough day at the office for young Arno Carstens on Tuesday (August 1) but lessons were learnt and coach Stefan Pretorius hopes his student will come back a stronger fighter.
Arno was competing as part of Team South Africa at the World Youth Mixed Martial Arts Championships taking place in Abu Dhabi.
Unfortunately, the talented youngster lost all three of his day one contests to opponents from Uzbekistan, Estonia and Saudi Arabia.
Although disappointed with the losses, both coach Stefan and Arno felt they had learnt a great deal about both the standard of opposition and the athlete himself. They would, said the coach, work on a number of things after Arno had taken a well-deserved break.
The second athlete from Heidelberg’s Ability Academy gym at the Championships, Sebastian Ferreira, begins his tournament this coming Saturday. Heidelberg Times will keep readers updated as to his progress in the tournament.
Hold your head high Arno, you have represented your family, town and country with dignity. We know you will bounce back!!
