BERGE TOO STRONG FOR SASOLBURG

The Heidelberg Rugby first team swept to an emphatic victory over the Sasolburg Cobras Rugby Club this past Saturday (July 20) and strengthened their chance of a place in the semi-finals of the Valke Rugby Merlin League in September.
The final score in the encounter, played at Hoër Volkskool, was 34-14 to the Berge.
The home team dominated in nearly all facets of the game and thoroughly deserved their victory. There is still work to do heading into the final quarter of the season, specifically when it comes to discipline, but the coaching staff will be pleased with the overall performance.
Tries were scored by prop forward JJ Theron (2), lock forward Werner Griesel, outside centre Roaan Viljoen and replacement utility back Bongi Ntuli. Viljoen also added two conversions while Armand Wessels also kicked a conversion and a penalty.
The Heidelberg second’s also put up another fine performance and the team has definitely found its feet in the second half of the season. The Berge ran out comfortable 36-10 victors over the Sasolburg seconds and it will be interesting to see if they can continue with their impressive form over the final part of the season. There is definitely a feeling that they can have a say when it comes to deciding the semi-finalists in September.
The Heidelberg men make the trip to Meyerton knights rugby klub this upcoming weekend for what promises to be a competitive encounter. Watch this space later in the week for more details.
Well done Berge, let’s go again on Saturday!
