One of the aircraft that formed part of the Great Train Race experienced engine failure on its way back from the Heidelberg Airfield.
The owner/pilot told Heidelberg Times that he was on his way back to his home base in Vereeniging because the wind had started to pick up. His Tiger Moth suffered engine failure and was forced to make an emergency landing around 12-kilometres outside Heidelberg next to the R42 Meyerton road.
He managed to send out a Mayday and ADTs tactical air support (that was already airborne) responded.
