Inter-town cooperation once again proves to be beneficial in putting criminals away.
Cooperation between various security structures from Heidelberg and Nigel has led to the arrest of two suspected vehicle hijackers today (November 13) in Jameson Park.
The arrests follow a high speed chase and shootout between members of AfriForum Heidelberg and the criminals.
Earlier, a black VW Polo sedan, which was identified as having been hijacked in Vrede yesterday (November 12), was picked up by the highly effective SNIPR cameras in Heidelberg, heading in the direction of Nigel. Once the Burgerlike Beskerming Nigel (Civilian Protection) members had eyes on the suspects, they notified the Afriforum Heidelberg members who came to Nigel to assist. The suspect vehicle then drove off at high speed in the direction of Heidelberg, with the Afriforum members in hot pursuit. After entering Jameson Park, a shootout ensued with the suspect car eventually coming to a standstill in Disa Avenue.
The criminals abandoned the vehicle and tried to hide away in the garage of a residence. Police members from Nigel SAPS arrived on scene and with the assistance of a number of security companies and structures, the thieves were arrested.
One firearm was found in the garage while a second was discovered behind the rear seats of the Polo.
While the suspects were being loaded into the police van, the community pleaded with the police to give them two minutes alone with the arrested pair. One resident told Heidelberg Times that the two were from Jameson Park and had been terrorizing residents in the area for some time.
Congratulations to all involved in taking two more criminals off the streets. Those on scene also included Crime Stop Heidelberg, Emis Security Heidelberg, Lesedi Traffic, EMPD and Nigel CPF as well as an anti-hijacking unit and those structures mentioned above.
This is how we remove the plague of criminality from our streets.
